Grandmaster Tse’s Wing Chun Note 353

Twenty-Four Leg Techniques Part 21

Whoever attacks first will win

During Chī Sáu or a fight, we might make contact with our opponent’s leg, with one of our legs. This is also Jip Geuk 接脚. Once we have contact, we must attack as the position is so dangerous, because we are so close. Whoever attacks first will win, however, we do not need to attack with the legs, we can attack with our hands and this is actually safer because we will have both feet on the ground. With both feet on the ground we will be more balanced than when we lift one leg up as it means we will only have one leg to support us. However, we can attack with the hands first and then use our legs. For example, we can use Chūng Kyùhn 冲拳 – Punch with Tāan Sáu 攤手 and then use Laap Sáu擸手 to control the opponent and then we can attack with our legs. If our contact is on the outside, and this is the most common situation, we can use Johng Sāt 撞膝 – Crashing Out Knee Strike. If we are on the inside and in contact with the lower legs, we can use Gwaih Sāt 跪膝 – Kneeling Knee Strike. Both ways are a safe way to attack.
