Master Tse’s Wing Chun Note #183

Ancestor instruction V 詠春祖訓 pt2

Wing Chun Long FistWing Chun Ancestor Instruction V say, “Practise your skill regularly, keep your skill with you at all times 勤練習技不離身.” After practising daily our skill will develop and our Gūng Lihk 功力 will become strong. “Keep the skill with you at all times,” means we need to use it, but we should not get into fights. This is not the purpose of our Wing Chun skill because we should not hurt people for no reason. Most traditional Chinese Kung Fu styles are like this. We consider all fighting circumstances where there are no rules and also the use of weapons, like swords, broadsword, staff, spear, flying darts, etc. Since the development of guns these weapons are not so important, however Wing Chun has a way to keep the skill with us at all times, that is Chī Sáu 黐手. We need to practise Chī Sáu regularly with many different people, I would say at least 100 people and also with those people who we are not used to and those who really test us. When our Chī Sáu is really good, then we can touch hands with people who do other styles, of course it is best if we know each other and never hurt each other. Practice more Chī Sáu and we can develop or skill and use less energy.
