Grandmaster Tse’s Wing Chun Note 341

24 Leg Techniques Part 9

Wing Chun Laap Sau

The next technique is Muht Geuk 抹脚. Muht 抹 means wipe and so Muht Geuk means Wiping Leg, like wiping a window, this kick however, wipes down the opponent’s leg. We first see this kick in Section 8 of Mòh Jōng 磨樁 – Polishing Dummy. To use Muht Geuk we need to be close to our opponent and we usually use it together with Laap Sáu 擸手 – Grasping Hand. Here we use Double Laap Sáu and we put our heel on our opponent’s shin (or lower leg), then we wipe our heel down their shin, scraping it all the way down to their ankle, and this is very painful. In many situations, we use Double Laap Sáu together with Dāng Geuk 蹬腳- Stamping Kick to attack the opponent’s knee, which in its self is very damaging, but then we continue to and use Muht Geuk immediately afterwards and this is even more damaging. Wing Chun kicks are very powerful and so we must think carefully before we use them. Of course, in a fight, you will not have any time to think, so we should practise all 24 Leg Techniques on the Muhk Yàhn Jōng 木人樁 – Wooden Dummy. This is to not only make our leg techniques powerful, but so we can also control our power. Then we can kick our opponent hard enough without having to destroy their knee, hips or shin.
