Grandmaster Tse’s Wing Chun Note 424

Studying with Sīfú 師父 – Part 11

While studying, I came across more and more hands that were strong and fast. I was the same, I was fast and strong and this meant I could easily hit the juniors. One day I did Chī Sáu 黐手 with a senior whose nickname was, Daaih Tàuh Jái 大頭仔 – Big Head Boy, we touched hands in the beginning position of Chī Sáu, with his Tāan Sáu 攤手 – Opening Hand, just right, and I could tell he was strong and he could hit me anytime, he did not need to do anything! A senior’s power is inside, just holding their position and without having to do anything, you know you have already lost! Later I came to know this was his Gūng Lihk 功力 – Internal Strength. The strength is underneath and the power is on the inside. This was the first time I had come Gūng Lihk. How about with Sīfú 師父? Sīfú’s hands are different, you can feel his power, but he does not feel strong. Sīfú’s power is in his bones and his skill is soft and you do not notice it straight away, which makes it even more powerful! This is a high level of power is where people do not notice it this is high level Gūng Lihk.
