Studying with Sīfú 師父 – Part 18

I have learnt a lot from my Sīfú 師父. He is kind, open, friendly, reasonable and wise, and he never holds back the skill. Because he is such a good teacher, I have leant how to be a teacher from him. I notice that if students stay with him long enough, they all have good lives. Many are only with him for one to two years, but there are some who have been with him 50 years! I myself (at the time of writing this) have been with him 39 years. Even though he is 37 years older than me, I have never felt that he is an old man. Sīfú can talk to people of all ages. He always begins his seminars by talking to the students and inviting them to ask him any questions about Wing Chun. This part of teaching I have a learnt from him and I do the same. He has the highest level of Wing Chun, I always knew he was good, but I never truly appreciated it until I organised seminars for him in the UK. I saw him Chi Sau with so many people, most of them bigger, strong and some faster than him, but he was able to handle all of them and beat them. During his seminar, he never refused doing Chi Sau with anyone, even when he was in his 70’s and 80’s. Sīfú Ip Chun 葉準 is an idol to his many students and grand students all over the world.
