Master Tse’s Wing Chun Note #208

Like to Páak Sáu 拍手 a Lot pt 1

Some people like to Páak Sáu a lot during Chī Sáu 黐手. Páak Sáu is a very powerful attacking hand, but to use it you must feel that your opponent’s hand is tense this also means that we must not be tense ourselves when we Chī Sáu.

People usually like to use Páak Sáu when they have one hand touching and use it against our forward hand, which is often a Wuh Sáu 護手 or a Tāan Sáu 攤手. If we are too tense they can easily get in. So when we have one hand in contact we must make sure that we relax. When they start to do their Páak Sáu, because we are relaxed, we can let go and drop our Wu Sáu and use move our rear Wu Sáu forward to catch their attacking hand. At the same time we can use the power from their Páak Sáu to strike back. This is the best defence.

Sometimes we can let them slap our arm Wu Sáu a couple of times, then when they try again a bit harder, we can catch their Páak Sáu and their attacking hand. So we should not use Páak Sáu too often otherwise our opponent will get used to it.
