Master Tse’s Wing Chun Notes #81

Withdraw the Fist收拳

Note 81_2After punching and our fist is still in front of us, we open the palm and then rotate the wrist to the inside and then out. The fingers should be relaxed and our strength should be in our wrist. At the end our fingers are pointing outside and then we close or fingers one by one, from the little finger, ring finger, middle finger, index finger and then finally the thumb at the same time we hold the fist vertically. Why do we do this? This is to exercise all the joints in the palm, from the wrist to the each finger. Many people are lazy when they close their fingers and so do not exercise them. Everything we practise has a meaning which we must know.

Also when we withdraw the fist back to the side of the chest the arm should be relaxed until we reach the shoulder and then for a split second, the fist should tighten making strength come to the chest, shoulder, arm and fist. Every movement is training something.
